This is the best Cherry Pie! You cannot go wrong with this classic. Historically the most popular, cherry pie combines tart flavors with a creamy, buttery crust creating a masterpiece in your mouth. Adding our Salt ES elevates this dessert to a new level. The hint of espresso mixed with the cherry filling creates an unique flavor not found in usual desserts.
Ingredients
- 2 Uncooked Pie Crusts
- 32 oz Cherries thawed, pitted
- 1 cup sugar
- 4 tbsp cornstarch
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- Salt ES for topping
- 3 tbsp butter cold, diced, for topping
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 425.
- Roll the first pie crust and place in pie pan.
- Combine cherries in a saucepan. If using frozen, allow thawing. Add 1 cup of sugar, 4 tablespoons of cornstarch, and ½ tsp of cinnamon.
- Cover the pan and warm for a few minutes until the juices separate from the cherries. Then cook until boiling and pull off the heat. (roughly 5-8 minutes) Make sure the consistency is thickened and pie-filling texture.
- After slightly cooling for 10 minutes, place the cherry filling into the pie shell.
- Take the second pie crust and roll it out. Slice the crust into 1-inch strips using a pizza cutter or knife. Create a checker textured top by placing strips half the strips a few inches apart. Then do the same across the top.
- Crimp the edges with your fingers to seal the sides together.
- Crack an egg in a bowl and stir with fork. Take a brush and brush the top of the pie with the egg wash. This creates the golden top.
- Take the diced butter and place in the cracks of the crust.
- In preheated oven, place pie in center rack for 20 mins. Then reduce oven to 350 degrees and cook the remaining 30 minutes until golden brown top and bubbling cherry filling.
- Sprinkle Salt ES on the top of the pie. This elevates the flavor to create a masterpiece you will be proud to serve.
- Serve warm with your favorite vanilla ice cream.
Notes
Feel free to start with a pie crust by scratch. However, starting with premade dough is always an option and creates the same, delicious outcome.
